It’s Homecoming Week at HHS! We kicked things off with Teacher/Student Swap Day, and our CTE students did not disappoint—showing up dressed as their favorite CTE teachers.

A big thank you to Dr. Odom from North Mississippi West Point Children’s Clinic for speaking with our Health Science students today! She shared her journey to becoming a pediatrician and gave insight into what a typical day in her career looks like. Students also got hands-on experience using Eko stethoscopes to listen to each other’s heartbeats. These advanced tools detect even faint sounds and display ECG rhythms—an exciting opportunity for our future healthcare professionals!

👩🍳✨ First Day in the Kitchen! ✨
Houston CTE Culinary Arts I students spent their very first day in the kitchen putting skills into action! From practicing accurate measuring to mastering basic cutting techniques, students got a taste of what it takes to be successful in the culinary world.
These hands-on lessons are the foundation every great chef needs—teaching precision, safety, and confidence in the kitchen. We can’t wait to see how their skills grow throughout the year!

Congratulations to Mrs. Rooker on being the winner of the gift basket presented by the National Council of Negro Women-Okolona Section.

Mrs. Griffin and Mrs. Myatt’s first-year Health Science students took their Infection Awareness & Prevention unit beyond the textbook this week! Students swabbed a variety of surfaces around campus—from doorknobs and desks to water fountains and keyboards—to test for bacteria growth.
Over the next several days, they’ll observe and record their results, learning how bacteria spreads in everyday environments and why proper hygiene and sanitation practices are so important in healthcare.

Thank you to Richard Earnest for speaking to Mrs. Moss’s 2nd Year Business, Marketing, and Finance students. His presentation provided valuable insight and served as an excellent introduction to their upcoming Personal Finance unit.

Mrs. Moss's Business & Marketing students got creative today! They worked together to make poster collages illustrating goods & services--bringing real-world economics to life through teamwork and creativity.

Dr. Cook’s Diversified Ag class took food safety to the next level! Students perfected proper handwashing techniques to ensure top-notch sanitation, then had some fun whipping up edible slime. A perfect mix of learning and laughs — everyone had a blast!

Houston CTE Health Science students in Mrs. Myatt’s class presented research on non-profit healthcare organizations like the American Red Cross, St. Jude, and local clinics. They learned how these groups impact communities and gained insight into the importance of non-profits in the healthcare system.

Houston CTE is proud to support all our incredible student-athletes at Houston High! From the football field, to cheer, cross country, volleyball, golf, to our very own marching band. We see your hard work, dedication, and school spirit.
