Our 8th graders are taking "career goals" to the next level! After weeks of deep-diving into research—analyzing job growth, education paths, and daily responsibilities—they officially shared their expertise by hosting a Career Expo for our elementary students and community members.
It was amazing to see our older students step into the role of mentors, teaching the younger grades about everything from civil engineering to farming.

HMS ELA students are stepping back in time to 1994! 🕰️ By analyzing archival articles and digital records of the historic "Ice Century" storm, they are learning that history is the best teacher for the future.
Students are sharpening their research skills to:
• Analyze Primary Sources: Sifting through 1994 news reports and data.
• Identify Risks: Understanding the impact of freezing rain on infrastructure.
• Plan for the Future: Developing their own comprehensive Emergency Response Plans.
It’s more than just a reading assignment—it’s about using the power of information to stay prepared and resilient. 🛡️💻

We would like to extend a big thank you to the Houston Middle School PTO for their continued support of our staff during this final week before Christmas break. Yesterday, they treated our team to a baked potato and chili bar at lunch, which was a much-appreciated pick-me-up during a busy stretch. 🥔🌶️
They also helped us start today on a positive note by providing donuts for the staff. 🍩 As we wrapped up exams today, this encouragement meant even more. We are truly grateful for the HMS PTO and the many ways they continue to support our school family.

Mrs. Brinker serves as our 6th-grade ELA teacher, and her classroom is a place where students grow as readers, thinkers, and confident communicators. Our HMS Jr. FFA Christmas Food Drive has been underway for several weeks, and we’re in the home stretch! We’re back from Thanksgiving Break, and this is the final week to participate. All donations will go to support Houston families through Ashley’s Angels.
Students may bring non-perishable items to their first-period teacher through Wednesday, December 3rd. Every five items earns a 5-point coupon.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far—let’s finish strong and continue supporting families in our community this holiday season! 🎄
