Houston Middle School is excited to celebrate our students’ academic success at the PACE Awards on Monday, October 6th, in the HHS Auditorium.
Students who are being recognized have already received invitations, and each grade level will be celebrated at its scheduled time (see graphic for details).

📚💬Today at Houston Middle School, Ms. Duncan’s 7th & 8th Grade ELA students prepared for next week’s benchmark assessments through a student-led Socratic Seminar! This discussion-based strategy encourages students to think critically, ask questions, and build on each other’s ideas. Instead of just reviewing answers, they practiced explaining their thinking and deepening their understanding—key skills for success on benchmarks and beyond. Way to go, Hilltoppers! 👏

🧪✨ Our 6th grade students at HMS are bringing science to life by creating their very own Cell City! 🏙️
Through this collaborative project, they are recalling the parts and functions of a cell and creatively connecting them to familiar places in our town. This hands-on activity not only strengthens their understanding of cell biology but also encourages teamwork and critical thinking. 💡🤝

The NCNW Okolona Section stopped by Houston Middle School to spread a little joy and appreciation! 💐 They presented Ms. Upshaw with a beautiful basket of goodies in recognition of the hard work, dedication, and love that teachers pour into their students every single day.

Our students had a blast 💥 playing BUNK while reviewing unit rate. Learning is always better when it’s fun, interactive, and full of energy 📚.
Mrs. Katie Johnson’s 6th-grade science students have been learning how to classify cells. They studied the different organelles and the job each one performs. To review, the students created edible cells. It was a fun and memorable way to bring science to life—and a tasty one too! 🧬🔬🍬

🚀🥚💡 Our 8th Grade Computer Science & Engineering students put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test this week with an Egg Drop Challenge! Students designed and engineered constructs to protect an egg dropped from an elevated position—all while applying their knowledge of Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion and key physics concepts learned in class.
It was an exciting way to bring science to life, and we are proud of the innovation and teamwork our students showed! 👏 🐐
