
Houston High School Beta Club recently took a trip to Biloxi to compete at the Beta Convention. Jayden Lawrence competed against more than 20 groups in Solo, Duo, and Trio- Vocalist. He placed 1st place in the first round, and advanced to the finalist where he also placed 1st. Jayden will now be attending Nationals this June in Savannah, Georgia.

This week in health science, students dissected chicken wings. For the assignment, students learned about the parts of the chicken wing. Chicken wings have muscles similar to the muscles in human arms.


Monday night, February 26, HHS held the Fine Arts Festival. The band, the choirs, and other performed. Art was also on display in the Commons.

The Topper Pride Band, under the direction of Eric Malone and Kurt Hickey, has been preparing for their concert band competition. The band has been working hard for several weeks, trying to perfect their music. They are hoping to come back to school on Monday, March 4th, with a one and superior in their concert performance.


Health Science students sold 300 orders of Krispy Kreme donuts to raise money for the HOSA competition.


The Lady Topper softball team has been working hard to prepare for the season. Seniors Blakely Gill and Haley Ellison lead the team.

2024 Chickasaw County School District Job Fair

The Lady Topper softball team has been working hard to prepare for the season. Seniors Blakely Gill and Haley Ellison lead the team in working hard and improving throughout the season.

English II classes review for benchmark. Student read a passage and answer the questions from their last benchmark. Then they stand up and explain to the class why they picked the answer they did. Ms. Mosley stated, “This method is a better way to help students understand the correct answers.” #ExpectSuccess


HHS Beta attended the Mississippi state-wide Beta convention, a three-day trip in Biloxi, MS. The ten students who attended participated in various competitions and had fun at the Margaritaville Arcade. Students also enjoyed taking in the sights of the coast.

A BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK
Before the lights come on, a name is called, or a dress is put on, someone has to set the stage.
Students Mairee Virges and Emanuel Pulliam work on a Balloon Arch for the HHS Most Beautiful Pageant. The pageant was held February 17, 2024 at 7:00 p.m., located in the Houston High School Auditorium.









In Agricultural Food Science, Genesis Vallejo and Jashia Atkinson finally got to hold the chickens that hatched January 29 and 30th and now get to see them grow.



Though COVID has been dying down, nurse Dawn still performs tests to make sure our students are healthy and able to attend their classes without putting others at risk.


Ms.McCarver’s Chemistry class started learning about atomic theory this week. They have been working hard to determine atomic numbers and learn about the history of it.
