
This week the students in our educators rising program continued their field activities. They travel to other schools around the district to practice their teaching skills.



This week the Beta Club members had a meeting to discuss competition fees, service hours, and upcoming officer elections. Speaking is Beta president, Jayden Lawrence, who just recently won first place at state competition for singing.


The welding class at the CTE has recently advanced from stick welding to MIG welding. Stick welding is a process where the arc is struck between an electrode flux-coated metal rod and the work piece. MIG welding is the process where an electric arc forms between an electrode and a metal workpiece.



Last week, some students in Health Science 1 & 2 went to compete in the MS State HOSA (Health Occupational Students of America) in Tupelo, MS. The conference was held at the Cadence Bank Arena. Kalea Williams and Anahi Gonzalez competed in the show board competition, which was only available at State Convention.



In AP European History, students study and play Quizlet live to prepare for their upcoming test.

Mrs. Cathay Spencer and Mrs. Katie Miller took students to Dynasty College to tour their buildings. While students were there, the instructors told the students more about cosmetology and barberology school. They also said they allow students to shadow in whatever area they would like to get into.



On Thursday, the Balfour representative came to talk to juniors and seniors about letter jackets. Juniors were offered jackets for sports or activities after playing for 3 years. Sophomores were offered jackets in advance for sports they play.


Nurse Dawn Vance is planning a trip to France & Italy for students or parents who are interested in going. This trip will take place Summer of 2025! If you want to go, she wants everyone to be signed up for the meeting by March 28, 2024. Attached is the flyer with all the information. All students received a copy of the flyer.

Houston Hilltoppers Baseball took on Caledonia Tuesday, March 19. Varsity played great. Steele Brooks pitched almost 100 pitches. The defense was awesome. Two very great teams went head to head in this district game. Tied 4 to 4 in the bottom of the seventh leading to extra innings. The team was doing well when the other team scored. That made the final score of the game 5-4.

Houston’s archery team conducted one extra practice before spring break.


The Lady Topper’s Softball team has been playing their hardest to make this a successful season. This team has accomplished more than they believed they could thus far and are very proud of themselves.


The seniors of HHS held a performance for the Lower Elementary School a couple of weeks ago. Today, the high school students enjoyed themselves while watching the same play this morning in our auditorium.


Students are completing study guides on The Great Gatsby for the 9-weeks test. The students played Around the World to help them remember what they had prepared.


Houston High School Beta Club recently took a trip to Biloxi to compete at the Beta Convention. Jayden Lawrence competed against more than 20 groups in Solo, Duo, and Trio- Vocalist. He placed 1st place in the first round, and advanced to the finalist where he also placed 1st. Jayden will now be attending Nationals this June in Savannah, Georgia.

This week in health science, students dissected chicken wings. For the assignment, students learned about the parts of the chicken wing. Chicken wings have muscles similar to the muscles in human arms.


Monday night, February 26, HHS held the Fine Arts Festival. The band, the choirs, and other performed. Art was also on display in the Commons.

The Topper Pride Band, under the direction of Eric Malone and Kurt Hickey, has been preparing for their concert band competition. The band has been working hard for several weeks, trying to perfect their music. They are hoping to come back to school on Monday, March 4th, with a one and superior in their concert performance.
